The name Dan Cong "Single Strain," was descovered hundreds of years ago around the Song Dynasty periods and named after tea bushes that produced a uniquely taste.
Originally grown from Feng Huang Shan (Phoenix Mountain), about 1,000 metres above sea level, where the soil, sun light, clean air and water provide an ideal environment for best growths. The leaves are harvested from a strain of trees that have been selected for careful breeding. These trees have a single trunk that rises straight up through others, making harvesting the leaves particularly difficult.
It was served as a tribute tea in the Song Dynasty and now only close friends and relatives are served with a tea of this grade.
Like Pu-erh tea, this tea can be stored and the taste improves with age.
Taste:
Light and slightly astringent, with a hint of fruit. A complex aroma, refreshing, with a complex delicate woody and fruity taste.
